Richard Liu is the founder and CEO of JD.com, a Chinese e-commerce giant. The company is worth around $30 billion and has more than 100,000 employees. Liu Qiangdong graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University with a degree in computer science and worked as an engineer for IBM before starting his own business in 1998. He is said to be China’s richest man under the age of 40, with a net worth of $7 billion. His company JD.com has recently started to expand internationally by setting up offices in several major cities including San Francisco, London and Singapore.
Richard was born in 1973 in Jiangsu Province and grew up in Shanghai. He has a bachelor’s degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a master’s degree from the University of Science and Technology of China. Richard Liu is married to Zhang Zetian, who is also a JD.com employee. The couple has a son named Yangyang and lives in Beijing. In his free time, Richard enjoys playing badminton and watching basketball.
Richard Liu is said to be a workaholic, who spends much of his time at the office. He has said that the key to success is hard work and that he does not believe in taking days off. The company has been successful in getting around China’s internet censorship and has been one of the first Chinese companies to be listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. It is also the only Chinese e-commerce website that supports the English language.
Richard Liu has achieved many awards over the years. These include the 10th Asian Business Leader Award, World Economic Forum (Davos), 2012 and the Forbes list of “China’s 20 richest people under 40” in 2013. He is also known for sharing his thoughts on social media platforms such as Weibo and WeChat.
